Football Operations: Athletic Trainer/Physical Therapy/Doctor
Assistant Athletic Therapist - Saskatchewan Roughrider Football Club Inc. (Regina, SK)

Reporting to the Head Athletic Therapist, the Assistant Athletic Therapist is responsible for assisting the Head Athletic Therapist with athlete injury assessment, rehab planning and administering, and providing prognosis information and advice to the Head Coach, General Manager and medical team.

This position is crucial in terms of ensuring the safety of our players, and providing accurate, timely medical support to contribute to success on field.  The Assistant Athletic Therapist will exhibit strong communication skills while working closely with Football Management and the fellow medical team to ensure thorough and accurate decisions and plans are put into place.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Head Athletic Therapist to assess injuries and implement rehab procedures.
  • Under direction of Head Athletic Therapist, provide and coordinate clinical and field coverage during the CFL season including training camp, pre-season, in season, and post season practices and games.
  • Assist the Head Athletic Therapist in implementing all programs for the team, record keeping, and maintenance of medical charts.
  • Assist Head Athletic Therapist to coordinate and direct all athlete initial injury assessments, referrals, rehabilitation programs and communicating this process to all parties involved.
  • Involvement, communication and collaboration with other Athletic Therapists and Therapy groups such as the Canadian Athletic Therapist Association, Canadian Football League and community schools and minor sports.
  • Ensure the athletic therapy area is safe, clean, and organized.
  • Collaborate with the Head Athletic Therapist and Strength and Conditioning coach on return to play exercise rehabilitation for athletes and review of physical testing results.
  • Participate as a member of the Occupational Health and Safety committee.

Statistical Data:

  • Assist in supervising all health related needs of 80-100 athletes, 10-15 coaches and staff when necessary.
  • Assist in scheduling of medical staff for approximately 100 medicals, 14 days of training camp, and 6 months of season including 18 weeks of games, and 6 months of off-season medical follow-up. 

Acute Care and Rehabilitation Responsibilities:

  • All athlete medical coverage, including Saskatchewan Health care management and CFL player benefits support.
  • Communication with Head Coach and management.
  • CFL Concussion program.

Administrative:

  • Assist in the securing of immigration documents and provincial health coverage for all players and coaching staff.
  • Assist in auditing the Athlete RMS system or other league mandated medical record system.
  • Assist in overseeing player insurance program including submission of rosters, enrolling of new players, and assisting with claims.
  • Assist in making decisions regarding inventory and supply ordering.
  • Assist the ordering and managing of all Gatorade products.
  • Other duties assigned by the Head Athletic Therapist, General Manager, Head coach, or Vice President, Football Operations and Administration.

Miscellaneous:

  • Help organize and pack all training supplies and equipment for road games and training camp.

  • Assist Equipment Manager with packing and unpacking of equipment as well as locker room setup and cleanup.
  • Liaise with visiting teams to ensure all medical requirements are met and appropriate supplies are provided.
  • Stay current and research new treatment methods and research opportunities designed to help improve the care provided to all players and staff.
  • Maintain and clean medical equipment as needed.
  • Liaise with other departments and staff regarding Health and Wellness as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Head Athletic Therapist, Head Coach and General Manager.

Knowledge/Skills/Attributes:

  • Certified Athletic Therapist, CAT(C), in good standing.
  • Degree in appropriate area of specialization and 3-5 years’ professional sports experience.
  • Professional liability insurance appropriate for professional sports.
  • Lead, advocate, and contribute in sports medicine – CFL, minor football, minor sport, and the community at large.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to deal sensitively with individuals.
  • Ability to multitask and work under pressure.
  • Ability to interact with a wide array of personalities and individuals.
  • Advanced certifications in assessment and treatment of sports injuries.
  • First Responder certification.
  • CPR-HCP and AED certification.

About The Role

The Senior Manager, Rider Digital Media will be tasked with expanding both reach and engagement with Rider fans, both locally, nationally and internationally.  This role will work with cross functional teams in football operations, media relations, marketing, community outreach, retail and corporate partnerships to build out a programing, production and distribution strategy and tactical plan that supports our brand growth strategies and the objectives of these functional units mentioned above. 

The Senior Manager will be the leader of two fulltime video producers/editors, one social media coordinator, one graphic design and web editor and a variety of external resources including video production houses, photographers, audio production services, contract on-air talent, analysts and other content contributors.  Beyond this, our Media leader will be the senior contact with our CFL league digital team and will work with external application vendors including web, app, social and content hosting services or platforms.

Success in this role will be measured in not only what the leader accomplishes, but how he or she accomplishes his or her objectives.  Measurements will include quantitative growth in terms of reach and engagement as well as qualitative growth in innovation and creative content development and distribution.  The leader of Rider media will also be measured on his or her ability to engage our fan base with compelling content while navigating both internal and external demands from multiple business functions.

Day to day demands of this role will require the ability to lead staff in the planning and execution of work across the company including the development and execution of function specific media strategies and day to day content planning and development, while also having the ability, when or if needed, to get behind the camera, write scripts or interview players, coaches.

About You

The successful candidate:

  • has proven leadership skills with a minimum of five years experience leading teams of at least five members.

  • posseses five-plus years of hands-on experience in video production, editing and distribution, being comfortable behind the camera or in the editing suite if or when needed. He or she will have a strong understanding of new and emerging media equipment, platforms and solutions.

  • has experience with producing content in multiple formats for multiple media channels including the distribution of video across all social channels as well as Live Streamed content.

  • built their career in digital/social media and have a deep understanding, appreciation and passion for digital content and industry trends with respect to social media platforms and distribution channels.

  • developed a strong understanding of social media platforms, their evolutionary path and the impact of content distribution and algorithm strategies on our club’s content strategies.

  • possesses a background in professional sports - ideally in digital media and will be comfortable with the idiosyncrasies of the professional sports environment.

  • loves football and have a deep understanding of the game and a great appreciation of what fans are looking for in content and engagement. You will feel comfortable engaging with players, coaches or business leaders.

  • is an excellent communicator, with a professional calm demeanor in high stress environments.

  • has the ability and professional experience to think strategically while planning and executing in a hands on way at the tactical level.

  • is  described by their collegues as a creative leader who is constantly striving to innovate, push boundaries in content development.

  • is an avid consumer of professional sports content and social media across all platforms including fantasy football.

  • has a deep appreciation and understanding of brand concepts and market segments, including the impact of millennials.

This role will require weekend and evening work as well as some overnight travel.  We operate in a non-traditional work setting where irregular hours and overtime will be required from time to time, in turn we also provide job flexibility to support work-life balance.
